Unforgettable Amsterdam Canal Cruise: Small-Group & Drinks

My mom and I did this tour together and I can't say enough good things. Our tour was small and personal with only 4 other passengers plus our guide, Erik. Erik was knowledgable and funny, and he made sure we had plenty to eat and drink on the 2 hour tour. This is a fabulous way to see the city of Amsterdam. Many of the boat tours are big or have a reputation for crude jokes, this was neither. It was small and intimate, and we learned a lot about the history of Amsterdam. I highly recommend!

Five stars. Warning: contains honesty. This is not a canal tour for people who clap when the plane lands. This is a sharp, funny, unapologetically direct ride through Amsterdam with Captain Storm—who is, in fact, exactly what his name implies. From the first moment, this was clear: no script, no pandering, no soft-focus history narrated like a museum audio guide. Just raw, non-traditional stories delivered with Dutch precision, sailor sarcasm, and the confidence of a man who absolutely does not need your approval. Our kids (6 and 10) loved it—especially the freedom to sit at the bow while a salty, hilarious sea dog at the helm told stories with zero concern for fragile sensibilities. It felt less like a tour and more like a perfectly written sitcom that just happened to be floating. Important note for Americans (said with love): If you’re raising children named Braxtonleigh or Dreffany Margaux Chantilly Jr., this tour may emotionally vaporize you. Captain Storm does not censor reality. He will pop your bubble. Your snowflakes may melt. That’s on you. Some other passengers appeared to have pre-installed personality inhibitors. Dead fish showed more spark. Captain Storm carried on regardless—unbothered, undefeated, and entertaining us all the way to the end without a hint of desperation or apology. Normally this is where I complain about overpromising Viator experiences. Not today. This delivered exactly what it promised and then sharpened it with wit. My wife was pregnant at the time (do the math, time travelers—mazel tov). No “enhancements” were needed. This tour stands entirely on its own. Now that we’re back in Napoli, our kids are ranking their favorite experiences of the entire trip. Captain Storm and his boat are firmly top three. Easily. Book this tour if you want something real, funny, slightly dangerous to your comfort zone, and genuinely memorable. Skip it if you prefer your history padded, filtered, and approved by a focus group. Captain Storm is not for everyone—and that’s precisely why he’s excellent. 🚤🔥

Snacks were plentiful, the bar was open, the weather and canals were beautiful and our guide had plenty of interesting stories about Amsterdam. Overall we really enjoyed this one, but please be aware that this 2-hour tour with limitless beer doesn't have a toilet...

The perfect tour. The boat was covered, warm and had all amenities to make it comfortable. Captain Storm was knowledgeable and witty, providing several recommendations and serving the best balls in Amsterdam!

Erik was a delight! Loved the cruise, learnt some fab facts about the city and the wine & snacks made it! 5 stars!

We really enjoyed our canal cruise with Stefan. He was so knowledgable about Amsterdam and The Netherlands as a whole! The 2 hours flew by and the snacks and drinks were very welcome too especially the gluhwein to warm us up on a very cold day. Thank you!

Great boat tour ‘ 2 hours ‘ and FANTASTIC GUIDE STEPHEN!!! I have done 10 or more tours so far with friends and family visiting and this was by far the best, and worth the extra money to do a small boat!

A special birthday trip with the family and was my third boat experience and by far the best. Cosy on a cold February day and wonderful Eric told great stories and had many interesting facts to hand.

The small group size made it feel like a private outing rather than a tourist trap. Our captain was so knowledgeable and told great stories while we glided through the canals. Having the drinks and snacks included was such a nice touch—the wine was flowing and the Dutch snacks were delicious. Well worth the price for a more personal, relaxing experience
